theKITCHEN REPORT

This show kitchen is all about the details. Luxurious touches and sumptuous fabrics provide inviting feminine charm. An embossed,

polished sink is a striking focal point in the island.

THE GOAL ■ Homeowner Gail Stanger wanted to create a show-stopping space dedicated to entertaining. “The elegant design is intended for display,” says Thurston kitchen designer Michael Scott, “so it was imperative that we maintained a cohesive design with the rest of the home.” ■ Multiple-step crown moldings on the cabinet
doors and an ivory and gold color palette reflect the traditional, feminine design elements throughout the home. ■ A separate white and stainless steel working
kitchen keeps food preparation discrete while providing effortless access for catering and entertaining. THE ESSENTIALS ■ Scott installed a beverage island (an excellent alter- native to the typical wet bar), with space for wine, liquors and spirits as well as an under-counter Sub- Zero beverage cooler and ice maker. ■ A multi-step finish, stain and glaze on the cabinets
creates a radiant backdrop for delicate gold leafing on the doors and stenciled artwork on the stove hood by local Aspen artist Katya Ruston. ■ Scott installed gold granite with white veining on
the stove backsplash and white granite with gold veining for the countertop surface. “The metallics in the stone highlight the glazed cabinetry and give the kitchen a reflective sparkle,” he says.
